While bolstering the team’s talent pool is beneficial, accurately assessing the value of an offseason acquisition requires insight into the contract specifics. In a league governed by salary caps, understanding elements like guarantees, void years, and potential financial repercussions sheds light on teams’ strategic decisions.

According to Over the Cap, the complete details of White’s contract with the Rams have been disclosed.

His contract amounts to $4.25 million for a single season, resulting in a cap charge of $3.485 million for the upcoming season.

White will receive $3.25 million in guaranteed compensation, comprising $1.5 million in guaranteed salary and a $1.75 million signing bonus. Additionally, he stands to earn up to $1 million in per-game roster bonuses, which he is expected to achieve.

As of now, White’s contract ranks 38th among NFL cornerbacks for the current season.

Despite being relatively cost-effective, there are inherent risks associated with White’s acquisition. He enters the season at 29 years old and is recuperating from an Achilles injury, his second significant leg ailment. While the signings of White, Williams, and safety Kamren Curl aim to fortify the Rams’ secondary against vulnerabilities experienced in 2023, concerns about diminished athleticism could shorten White’s tenure in Inglewood.

White showcased promise in his limited appearances last season, tallying 11 tackles, an interception, and a pass breakup.

White is expected to fill the role of an outside cornerback, although his signing does not preclude the Rams from considering drafting a cornerback in the NFL Draft. The team has frequently targeted dynamic secondary additions in mock drafts, but White’s signing might influence their draft strategy, potentially shifting their focus to later rounds or altering their interest to slot positions.
