injury report: Knicks’ Jalen Brunson Diagnosed with Knee Contusion After Injury vs. Cavaliers in…
For the past few weeks, the New York Knicks have been grappling with injuries, and they encountered another concern during Sunday’s match against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau informed the media that their key point guard, Jalen Brunson, sustained a knee contusion during the game. He underwent X-rays which thankfully showed no serious damage. Thibodeau mentioned that there’s currently no set timeline for Brunson’s return.
Initially, the Knicks stated that Brunson might be able to continue playing despite a sore left knee following an early injury in the game, but they later decided to sideline him for the rest of the match.
Brunson got hurt within the first minute of the game, attempting a jump shot during New York’s initial possession. He landed awkwardly, falling to the court and requiring assistance to the locker room.
The diagnosis of a knee contusion provides some relief to Knicks supporters, considering the initial concern following Brunson’s injury, which happened without contact. Losing their main playmaker for any period would be a significant blow to New York.
Brunson earned his first All-Star Game selection this season, showcasing career-best averages of 27.7 points and 6.7 assists per game, with impressive shooting percentages of 47.7% from the field and 40.7% from beyond the arc.
Since January 27, the Knicks have been missing star forward Julius Randle due to a shoulder injury, while swingman OG Anunoby has been sidelined since then after undergoing elbow surgery. Additionally, starting center Mitchell Robinson underwent ankle surgery in December.
New York is undoubtedly hoping for Brunson’s swift return. With a tight playoff race in the competitive Eastern Conference, maintaining good health is crucial for their aspirations of a deep postseason run.
