As the NFL made its inaugural foray overseas, the first-ever International Series regular-season game unfolded at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium. This groundbreaking event aimed to expand the league’s global footprint, with the Giants and Dolphins selected to introduce American football to a new audience.
Little did anyone foresee on October 28, 2007, that a wide-eyed 13-year-old Londoner would witness this game, his maiden exposure to the NFL, and be captivated not only by the sport but also by the team donning blue and white.

Last week saw numerous players finalizing agreements and signing contracts, transitioning from one city to another with excitement about joining new teams. Then there was Eluemunor, the newest addition to the Giants offensive line, whose sheer joy radiated from his numerous jubilant social media posts.
Seventeen years after witnessing the Giants clinch a victory against the winless Dolphins at Wembley, the 29-year-old NFL veteran of seven seasons, having previously played for the Ravens, Patriots, and Raiders, is now proudly sporting blue in New York. Eluemunor’s two-year contract with the Giants, valued at $14 million, with $6.75 million guaranteed, marked the dawn of a new chapter filled with enthusiasm.

While expressing gratitude for his tenure with the Raiders, Eluemunor eagerly anticipated his future with the Giants, describing himself as “damn excited to put that beautiful blue helmet on.” He expressed reverence for wearing jersey No. 72, receiving blessings from former Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, a fellow Londoner of Nigerian descent.
Eluemunor, like Umenyiora, hails from London and shares a connection to Nigeria. Promising to match Umenyiora’s on-field energy, Eluemunor pledged to perform at an exceptionally high level for his predecessor.
In summary, Eluemunor encapsulated his elation by stating, “It’s the freakin’ New York Giants.”
Yet, the Giants’ plans for Eluemunor’s role are somewhat unconventional. Having started all 34 games at right tackle for the Raiders over the past two seasons, Eluemunor arrives at a position currently occupied by Evan Neal, recuperating from ankle surgery.
Recognizing Neal’s struggles in 2023, the Giants opted to secure a backup capable of stepping in should Neal encounter setbacks. Eluemunor’s arrival presents healthy competition, with the possibility of him challenging Neal or transitioning to a guard position.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds, Eluemunor’s versatility extends to guard positions, providing the Giants with flexibility in their lineup. He remains open to fulfilling any role required, emphasizing his readiness to contribute wherever needed.
Eluemunor’s journey to the NFL was marked by perseverance and determination. Departing London at 14, he embraced football and wrestling in the Denville, N.J. area, carving out a path from Lackawanna College to Texas A&M before being drafted by the Ravens in 2017.
His steadfast resolve and adaptability position him well for the challenges and opportunities ahead in his tenure with the New York Giants.
