Former United coach Kieran McKenna leads Ipswich Town to promotion.
Former Manchester United coach, Kieran McKenna today saw his side secure promotion to the Championship in a 6-0 win.
McKenna was part of both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s coaching team. He came from the United youth teams, having coached their previously.
Upon Solskjær’s dismissal, McKenna departed taking up the vacant Ipswich Town job. In his first season, he achieved an 11th place finish, due to joining in December.

However this year he has seen his team lose the least games and score the most goals. In fact they achieved double the goal difference of the team above them.
The promotion was secured earlier today in a rampant 6-0 victory over Exeter. Despite promotion the season isn’t over yet, with one final game they can win the league should Plymouth drop points.
McKenna now faces the challenge of transporting his sides performances to the next level in the Championship in August.
McKenna’s history
McKenna was once a Tottenham youth prospect however was forced to retire at 22. This due to a hip injury he sustained, meaning he never made a senior team appearance.

Following his retirement, McKenna began coaching his way through the Spurs academy. In 2015 he became the under-18s manager, this opened the door to a move up north.
In 2016 he left Spurs for Manchester United’s under-18 manager role. Following this he was promoted in 2018 to the senior team as part of Mourinho’s staff.
McKenna’s style involves dominating possession and relentless waves of attacking intent. This is seen by the sheer amount of goals that Ipswich have scored this year.
The rampant year has also led McKenna to having the highest win percentage of any Ipswich manager ever.
