FootballScoop has learned that Tony Alford, who has had a lengthy nine-year tenure at Ohio State, is being pursued by the program’s biggest rival. Sources indicate that a potential agreement could be reached as soon as today.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Alford is set to join the coaching staff at Michigan, where Sherrone Moore is currently leading the first-year staff. The need for Alford arises from the departure of Mike Hart, a former Michigan standout running back who was not retained by the program under Moore’s leadership.
A former tailback at Colorado State, Alford has established himself as one of the nation’s most consistent running backs coaches. Prior to his time at Ohio State, he spent six years at Notre Dame, serving under both Charlie Weis and Brian Kelly. His coaching journey has also included stints at Power Conference programs such as Iowa State, Louisville, and Washington.
In addition to his coaching prowess, Alford has garnered acclaim for his recruiting skills. During his tenure at Ohio State, the program has seen numerous tailbacks transition to the NFL, a testament to Alford’s ability to develop talent.
