CINCINNATI — Tee Higgins officially requested a trade on Monday morning. The 25-year-old is hoping to get a long-term extension this offseason.
The Bengals placed the franchise tag on him last month, which is essentially a one-year, $21.8 million contract. Higgins’ agent David Mulugheta is hoping to secure a multi-year deal.
Mulugheta appeared to take a shot at the Bengals following the report that the team was moving on from Joe Mixon.
“I’ll take all the sticks and stones because at the end of the day my guys won’t be taking any L’s,” Mulugheta tweeted. “Today has shown teams will do what’s best for them at all times… my guys understand that and move with that same energy. #SecureTheBag!
The veteran agent doubled down after someone mentioned legacy and the ability to win at a high level.
“I’ve never seen legacy pay a bill,” he tweeted. “Legacy and $$$ is of course ideal. But no one hires me to secure legacy. They hire me to secure financial security and freedom for them and their families…and I always deliver.”
The Bengals agreed to terms with Zack Moss before moving on from Mixon, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be quick to grant Higgins his wish. Bengals President Mike Brown won’t flinch at the trade request and he won’t made a deal unless he thinks it makes Cincinnati better.
